Social & Environmental Responsibility

Agriculture is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions. It releases large quantities of carbon dioxide through the burning of biomass, mainly in areas of deforestation and grassland.

Moreover, over two-thirds of human water use is for agriculture. In Asia the share is four-fifths. (FAO)

We believe in effective altruism and free markets, by allocating capital to sustainable and smart agricultural practices we want to make the world a better place.

Our Mission is to create wealth with a positive social impact while minimizing the environmental footprint.

We believe that we can make avocado production more efficient by applying technology.

ENVIRONMENTAL

  1. We minimize the environmental footprint

  2. We manage natural resources in a conscious and sustainable way, especially in the case of water.

The amount of water necessary to produce one kilo of avocados varies between 600 to 700 liters. Technical improvements in irrigation as well as careful plant-growth control have reduced this figure by between 300-400 liters within the last decade.

Compared to fruits such as bananas (790 liters) or apples (822 liters), the amount of water avocados require ranks lower than the average within the fruits and vegetable market.

For comparison a kilo of beef (15,415 liters) or chocolate (17,196 liters) require substantially more water.

  3. Our farms use 70% rainwater.

SOCIAL

  1. We treat all our employees fairly and promote the fair treat of employees among our suppliers.

  2. We comply with all applicable laws, including labor laws.

  3. We promote a safe and healthy working environment.

  4. We encourage our community health, safety and security and education, therefore we have partnered with the University of los Reyes Michoacán.

  5. All of our workers and their families are covered under a state-run insurance for which we pay unconditionally. This is a very rare case since more than 90% of farms do not comply with this payment nor the benefits that it brings to their workers.

GOVERNANCE

  1. We have structured the board to add value and oversight.

  2. We encourage high standards of business integrity with ethical and responsible decision-making. Our advisor Asymmetrica Investments Ltd. claims compliance with the CFA Asset Manager Code of Conduct.

  3. We safeguard integrity in financial reporting and controls and make timely disclosures

  4. We are structured as a corporation, and investors have voting rights

  5. We follow a disciplined, value and income oriented, investment philosophy, focused on Capital Preservation.
